Tension Mounts As Ganduje Prepares To Resign As APC National Chairman

In a significant development within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is anticipated to step down from his role on Friday.
A report by Daily Nigerian suggested that the move has been confirmed, and is due to mounting internal pressure.
Although no official announcement has been made yet, insiders say the former Kano State governor has come under mounting pressure from key party stakeholders—especially from the North Central region—who have long agitated for the chairmanship seat to return to their zone.
A highly-placed party source disclosed that, “barring any last-minute change of decision,” Ganduje will formally tender his resignation and hand over to one of the party’s national vice chairmen in acting capacity, pending a national convention scheduled for December.
The move, according to several party insiders, is part of broader efforts by the APC leadership to douse internal tensions and reposition the party ahead of the crucial 2027 general elections.
Ganduje was appointed APC chairman in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
His emergence stirred controversy at the time, with many in the North Central region—traditionally seen as the rightful zone for the party chairmanship—voicing their displeasure.
Social media has been agog as supporters of Ganduje and the opposition, especially members of the Kwankwasiyya movement are having a field day.
Engr Bashir Bukar Muhammad, a staunch supporter of Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum wrote ‘The prayer is beginning to work.”
Hassan Cikinza Rano, former SSA to Ganduje on Agriculture under a picture of him and Ganduje said ‘It is certain, politics is harder than being in the army.’
Hon Abbah Bari wrote on his Facebook page: “A certain political calculation only by Ganduje and Asiwaju — honestly, what has been planned for Kano politics, if someone merely told you about it, you wouldn’t believe it. Just wait and watch.”
