A Nigerian lady has expressed displeasure after her landlord increased her rent from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million, despite the worsening economic hardship.

This was revealed in a post shared on the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In the post, the lady expressed frustration, lamenting that the economic hardship in Nigeria is already unbearable, yet her landlord is showing no consideration by raising the rent significantly.

She wrote: “They’ve increased my rent today. I just got back from the market and found out my rent has been raised from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.8 million.”

“Is that not too much? Nigeria is already hard enough, people are just trying to survive. What is happening, landlord? Nobody is considering anybody; everybody wants to kill everybody.”

She further noted that the rent increment letter stated the rent was previously ₦1 million, whereas she had been paying ₦1.2 million for the past two years.

“Is it a mistake? I’ve been paying ₦1.2 million, which is an extra ₦600,000. Now it’s going up to ₦1.8 million?” she questioned.
