Nobody Owes You Anything – Actress Damilola Adegbite Reveals Emotional Life Lesson After Turning 40 (Video)

Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has sent a message to her followers.
In a post on Instagram after turning 40, she warned her followers that nobody owes them anything.
The Nollywood star, who recently turned 40, said she felt compelled to share one of the major truths she’s learned with age — a truth she believes can free people from heartbreak, disappointment, and unmet expectations.
In the video recorded after attending an event, Damilola revealed that during a phone conversation with a friend, she realised how powerful the message was and decided to speak directly to anyone who might need to hear it.
According to her, one of the most liberating lessons in life is understanding that nobody owes you anything.
“Sometimes the people you showed up for will not show up for you. Sometimes your hard efforts will go unnoticed. That apology you are waiting for may never come,” she said.
She emphasised that while many people expect good things to happen to them simply because they act right, life doesn’t always follow that pattern.
Damilola explained that people often give love and care not because they’re obligated to, but because they choose to.
“Somebody shows you love, care, attention… it’s not your entitlement. They choose to care. They don’t have to,” she added.
The actress encouraged her followers to stop getting upset when others don’t treat them the way they expect. Instead, she advised them to observe, adjust, and keep moving.
She closed the video with a reminder that protecting one’s peace is essential:
“Your peace is your power. Don’t give it away just because someone couldn’t meet you where you are.”
The video has sparked conversations online, with many agreeing with the message and thanking her for the reminder.
