Inter Miami captain, Lionel Messi has issued a statement after Paris Saint-Germain thrashed them 4-0 in the Club World Cup Round of 16 tie.

The game was played Sunday evening.

The outcome of the encounter means Inter Miami now exit the competition, while PSG progress to the quarter-final where they will face Bayern Munich.

A brace from Joao Neves and a goal each from Tomas Aviles (own goal) and Achraf Hakimi gave PSG the victory against Inter Miami.

Reacting, Messi in a post on his Instagram account urged Inter Miami to shift their focus now on the Major League Soccer, MLS, and other competitions ahead.

The Argentina captain also expressed joy to see his former PSG teammates again.

Recall that Messi left PSG in 2023 to join Inter Miami, having spent two seasons with the Parisians.

“Today the Club World Cup ends for us with defeat against the Champions League winners, where there are players I appreciate and that gave me joy to see them again,” Messi wrote on Instagram.

“We leave with pride to have achieved our goal of reaching the top 16 of the tournament. Now to focus on the MLS and all that is coming.”
