Kwankwaso Betrayed Us, But APC Can Have Him – NNPP

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has said it’s ready to allow a former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is as the party accused Kwankwaso of betraying it.
The NNPP National Secretary, Mr. Oginni Olaposi, made this statement on Sunday in Lagos, while reacting to the recent resignation of APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and speculations that Kwankwaso may be planning to defect to the ruling party.
Ganduje resigned his position on Friday, citing health concerns. But Olaposi believes the development is linked to a possible deal involving Kwankwaso.
“Kwankwaso still insists he is a member of our party even after his expulsion for alleged anti-party activities,” Olaposi stated.
“Kwankwaso did not only tried to hijack the NNPP but also made the party go through avoidable litigations,” he added.
Olaposi noted that the party had only recently recovered its identity after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) restored its original logo, which Kwankwaso had allegedly replaced with his Kwankwasiya Movement symbol.
“The NNPP Logo that he changed to the Kwankwasiya Movement Logo has just been changed to our Logo by INEC, after years of controversy and litigations,” he said.
Olaposi also dismissed speculations surrounding Ganduje’s resignation, saying, “We have reasons to doubt the ongoing propaganda that Ganduje left APC to enable an alleged negotiated arrangement with Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.”
He recalled Ganduje’s previous remarks where he claimed the APC remains open to welcoming defectors.
“It is on record that Ganduje once said that APC is always ready to pardon and accommodate defectors even those who left its fold,” Olaposi stated.
He concluded by saying NNPP members would be glad to see Kwankwaso officially out of the party.
“We find it difficult to believe that Kwankwaso, who is still struggling to hijack the NNPP, is also negotiating to join the ruling party.
“Kwankwaso betrayed our trust in him by trying to hijack the party from its founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, who facilitated his free ticket for the 2023 presidential election,” he said.
