The incident reportedly occurred on May 5, 2025, along Airport Road in Benin City, where Ibrahim was seen being harassed by an officer identified as an Assistant Superintendent of Traffic.

A Benin City resident, identified only as Ibrahim, has shared how he sustained injuries after honoring an invitation from the Edo State Police Command and leaving the station wounded.

The invitation followed a viral video showing him being assaulted by a police officer.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 5, 2025, along Airport Road in Benin City, where Ibrahim was seen being harassed by an officer identified as an Assistant Superintendent of Traffic.

According to Ibrahim, rather than receiving justice or clarification during his visit to the police station, he was allegedly subjected to further assault by officers.

“When I got to the office, I explained what happened…. That was how they said that they should let me go. And that was how I left the police station yesterday, bleeding. And then I went home,” he narrated.

Distressed, he added, “Now today, I want to beg the general public. I want to take this matter to the highest level where it can be taken to. But there are some most popular elements in the Nigeria Police Force that need to be fetched out from this Nigeria Police Force. I think these people do anything, there are a lot of bad people.”

The video of the altercation also captured the officer shouting: “Work, work, God go punish you. You are going to follow us to our business place. You are buying market, oh okay, let’s go.”

Reacting to the outrage, the Nigeria Police Force said the officer has been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

A statement by Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday noted that the officer’s behaviour is against the Police Standard Operating Procedures, and he has been issued a formal query.

The police also confirmed that disciplinary procedures have commenced against the officer.
