Chimaobi Atu, a member of the House of Representatives  has dumped the Labour Party (LP) and crossed over to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atu represents the Enugu North/South Federal constituency in the Green Chamber, defected to the APC today, June 26.

His defection letter was read on the floor of the House during plenary by the speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.

In his letter of defection, Atu hinged his decision on the leadership crisis rocking the Labour party and claimed that the crisis had negatively affected his duties.

Ali Isa, minority whip, protested the defection and demanded that the lawmaker’s seat be declared vacant.

Abbas acknowledged his point of order but declined to rule on his demand.

This comes barely 24 hours after two members of the house, PDP’s Peter Akpanke, who represents the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara federal constituency of Cross River State, and the Labour Party’s Paul Nnamchi, who represents the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo federal constituency, defected to the APC.
