President Tinubu Reacts To The Death Of Highlife Legend, Mike Ejeagha

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of legendary highlife musician and folklorist Mike Ejeagha, offering his sincere condolences to the artist’s family, friends, and numerous fans.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ejeagha as “one of Nigeria’s greatest folklorists, songwriters, and musicians in the Igbo language.”

Tinubu hailed Ejeagha for his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Igbo traditions through music, saying the artist’s unique storytelling style inspired generations and upheld cultural heritage.



“May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal and redirect energy towards worthy causes that help build our nation,” the President stated.

He also lauded the Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, for recognising and celebrating Ejeagha’s legacy during his lifetime. 

Tinubu also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Ejeagha’s soul and asked God Almighty to grant comfort to all who mourn his passing.

Recall that Gentleman died at the age of 95 on Friday night.

The musician’s eldest son, Emma, who confirmed his passing on Saturday to journalists in Enugu, said he died on Friday evening at approximately 8 pm at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu after a prolonged illness.



“My father passed away due to a long-standing ailment,” said Emma.
