The Federal Government has announced the reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu today, after it was closed for runway repairs.

The airport had been shut down on April 18 due to a significant rupture in the runway surface. The repairs, which initially had a completion date of May 6, were finished ahead of schedule, allowing for the resumption of flight operations today.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that the runway is now fully operational, ensuring the safety of all flights. FAAN also expressed its gratitude to the public for their patience during the closure and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

The reopening of the airport is set to restore vital air connectivity to the southeastern region of Nigeria, which had been temporarily disrupted.
